SWEET SLEEP
Scripture Reading - Proverbs 3:19-24
19 The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens.
20 By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.
21 My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:
22 So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.
23 Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.
24 When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet. KJV
These verses lay a good foundation for “sweet sleep”. The first virtue that is mentioned is, “wisdom”. This “wisdom of God” comes from the Word of God since all wisdom was birthed from God’s Word. This is important because every believer must know that God’s Word is the foundation for “sweet sleep”. The second truth that is mentioned is, “understanding”. This “understanding of God” is one-hundred percent based upon comprehending God’s Word. The moment you adequately understand that these verses of scriptures are personally spoken to you (and for you) will experience “sweeter sleep”. The very next truth speaks of, “His Knowledge”. This means that through the knowledge of God’s goodness we can break up the hard mysteries of darkness. The devil works in darkness because his will is for man to be totally ignorant of his lies and deceptions. This ignorance keeps the average person from resisting the evil thoughts of trouble. The knowledge of God’s Word brings enlightenment to the soul removing all darkness and despair. This is why the Lord states, “don’t let the word of God depart from your eyes”. Keeping God’s Word before you will give you good (solid, trustworthy, creditable) wisdom to know just what to do. Not only will you know what to do but you will also have the strength from God’s Word to do it. The problem many people have is that they think sleep starts when you put your head on the pillow but that is not true. Sweet sleep starts when you wake up that morning because what you take to bed with you is always a product (combination) of what you did during that day. Doing God’s Word is the life of your soul and that life will put you to sleep that night if you have been mindful of God during the day. Yes, then you can walk around safely without stumbling into arguments which bring frustration and strife. This is how you lay down without fear of the future knowing that you will have “Sweet Sleep” because God’s Word will continue working all during the night just like it worked for you during the day. Amen.
